Internship Program Description

This internship program is designed for individuals who are interested in legal research, search and seizure law, criminal procedure, and law enforcement-related legal education.

Interns will have the opportunity to work directly with, and be mentored by, an experienced attorney and/or instructor. Responsibilities may include conducting legal research, reading and analyzing case law, reviewing state and federal court decisions, assisting with legal education materials, working on client-related legal topics, and helping create new content for training, courses, and publications.

This is an unpaid internship and the work will be completed remotely via Zoom and online collaboration. The program is intended to provide meaningful experience, mentorship, and practical exposure to legal research and real-world legal education.

Participants will gain valuable insight into search and seizure law, criminal procedure, court systems, legal writing, and the process of turning legal research into useful training content.

Do I need to be in law school or be an active-duty law enforcement officer to apply?

No. You do not need to be in law school, and you do not need to be an active-duty law enforcement officer. This internship is open to anyone with a strong interest in search and seizure, criminal procedure, legal research, and law enforcement-related legal education.

Is there a minimum time commitment required?

Yes. Interns should be able to commit approximately 2–4 hours per week. The program may also include a scheduled check-in meeting, either bi-weekly or monthly, depending on the intern’s availability and program needs.

What skills will I gain from this internship?

Interns will have the opportunity to sharpen their legal research and analysis skills, improve their understanding of case law, learn the difference between binding and persuasive authority, and gain a stronger understanding of state and federal court systems, criminal procedure, search and seizure law, and legal writing. Interns may also gain experience helping turn legal research into educational content for law enforcement, legal professionals, and other learners.

Could this internship lead to a paid position in the future?

While this internship does not guarantee future employment, strong performance, reliability, and a demonstrated interest in the work may lead to future opportunities if a paid position becomes available.
